Keep It Fresh Award / Book Tag

The wonderful Ashley & Sabrina tagged me to do the keep it fresh Award. A big thank you to them! If you like what I read (a mix of NA & YA romance) you will definitely love their blog.

THE RULES

1. Post the rules before starting and link back to this post as a reference for other bloggers.

2. Part AAnswer each of the fruit questions (each fruit corresponds to a book!) & add pictures plus why you thought that particular book deserves that particular fruit if possible.

3. Part BChoose your favorite fruit (even if it is one of the fruits in part A). Come up with a question that we didn’t ask and answer it.

4. Part CCreate your own smoothie from the fruits in Part A (imagine a Lemon-Tomato-Apple smoothie ~ yuck), and find a book that would correlate to your smoothie!

5. Nominate as many and anyone that you think are deserving of this award but it would be nice if you nominated a minimum of 5!

6. Notify your nominees of the nomination.

7. The most important rules? Have fun and of course, keep it fresh!

Part A

1. STRAWBERRIES – NAME THE SWEETEST BOOK YOU’VE READ. (E.G. SWEET IN TERMS OF THE CHARACTERS OR IF THE STORY TAKES PLACE IN A SWEET WORLD… ETC.)

The Host by Stephenie Meyer, This book was such a breath of fresh air because you would think the aliens are the bad guys but Wanderer proved me wrong. She is always considerate and nice to everyone even though the humans treated her as shit. I couldn’t help but love her. She let herself trampled over by everyone but luckily she found Ian, a guy as sweet as her.

2. COCONUT – WHAT IS A BOOK THAT YOU WOULD BRING ON VACATION WITH YOU TO A TROPICAL DESTINATION? (OR IF YOU’RE JUST RELAXING AT THE BEACH…)

I would have answered On The Island by Travis Garvis-Graves but I feel like I have recommended this one enough. The Education of Sebastian and Caroline, I own the combined edition and it’s the perfect NA beach read! It’s one of my favorite duologies and I could reread it none stop. The story is sweet and dramatic (and a little taboo). I would highly recommend this duology.

3. PINEAPPLE – WHAT IS A BOOK THAT YOU DIDN’T THINK YOU WOULD LIKE BY JUDGING ITS COVER/SUMMARY/THE FIRST FEW PAGES BUT STARTED TO GROW ON YOU?

Blue is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh, I had read a few graphic novels but I never seemed to like them a lot until I read this one. I was not sure if I was going to like it but I fell in love with it. The FxF romance was amazing and seeing Clementine discover her sexuality was wonderful.

4. ORANGE – WHAT’S THE JUICIEST BOOK YOU’VE READ? (E.G. A BOOK WITH TONS OF ACTION, ROMANCE… ETC.)

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover has some hot scenes! The romance isn’t present immediately because the main characters start a friends-with-benefits relationship but it quickly develops into more!

5. WATERMELON – A WATERY BOOK (E.G. THERE WASN’T TONS OF SUBSTANCE TO THE BOOK/THE DETAILS WERE JUST TOO WATERY…ETC. DON’T GET US WRONG THOUGH, WE LOVE WATERMELONS!)

★★★★

My Lady Jane felt like a watery Historical Fiction. The details were blurry and the historical background wasn’t realistic. The characters were funny but there wasn’t a lot substance to it. It’s definitely a funny YA book but if you go into it for a good Historical Fiction, don’t.

6. DRAGONFRUIT – WHAT’S THE MOST UNIQUE BOOK YOU’VE READ? (E.G. UNIQUE IN WRITING STYLE, CHARACTERS, PLOT… ETC.)

Anything by Amy Harmon is unique. Her writing style, characters, plots basically everything written by her is original.

7. LEMONS – NAME A BOOK THAT MADE YOU FEEL SOUR. (E.G. THE EMOTIONS WERE JUST SOUR, YOU JUST FELT SOUR READING THE BOOK, OR THE BOOK INCLUDES SOUR CHARACTERS… ETC.)

Fairest by Marissa Meyer, contains the most sour characters ever. Levana and her sister are the most horrible characters, I have ever read about.

8. TOMATO – WHAT IS A WONDERFUL BOOK THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE MORE WIDELY KNOWN? OR A FANTASTIC AUTHOR WHOM YOU THINK DESERVES MORE RECOGNITION? (SINCE SOME MAY NOT KNOW THAT TOMATOES ARE ACTUALLY FRUITS!)

Transcendence by Shay Savage has a weird synopsis and storyline but the story is so original and unique. I really think that this book by Shay Savage should be better known.  Highly recommended!

9. APPLE – NAME A REALLY STEREOTYPICAL BOOK OF A CERTAIN GENRE JUST LIKE APPLES WHICH ARE TYPICAL FRUITS. IN THE END WAS THAT BOOK GOOD OR NOT? (E.G. A VERY TYPICAL CONTEMPORARY/FANTASY BOOK… ETC.)

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, is a stereotypical first fantasy YA book. It contains the “princess on the run” trope but when you continue reading the book (and the series) the book gets really good.

10. BLUEBERRIES – NAME A BOOK THAT MADE YOU FEEL BLUE. (ANY SAD, DEPRESSING BOOKS THAT YOU’VE READ?)

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma, is such a sad, depressing book. The situation the characters have to live with is so sad. Their situation is so difficult and you really feel bad because even when there’re happy times, there is sadness. These kids have such a hard time. They have to raise their siblings, pay the bills and try to cope with their absent mother.

11. GRAPEFRUIT – ANY BITTER BOOKS? (E.G. A BOOK THAT WAS BLUE BUT MORE… DO YOU HAVE ANY BITTER RESENTMENTS TOWARDS CHARACTERS FROM A BOOK? ANY SOUR TURNED BITTER EMOTIONS? ANY UBER-HATEFUL VILLAINS?)

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, I resent the characters especially Aelin and Chaol. I felt betrayed by Sarah. She made them unrecognizable. I started hated them and they were not the same characters as the first 3 books.

12. LIMES – NAME A FUNNY BOOK THAT YOU’VE READ BECAUSE LIMES ADD FLAVOUR AND SO DOES HUMOUR WITH EVERY BOOK.

★★★★

The Score by Elle Kennedy, is a hilarious NA book. It has the right amount of funny, serious and hot scenes! It doesn’t hurt that the love interest is to die for!

Part B

CHERRY – THE BOOK THAT INTRODUCES YOU TO YOUR FAVORITE GENRE.

★★★★★

Slammed by Colleen Hoover, introduced me to NA.
